Finding help

Happy Easter everyone, I hope you have all had your fill of easter eggs and festivities.

Recently Jordan wrote on her blog site  (http://jordansequillion.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/getting-information/) an article on organisations and societies for the newbie, that’s inspired me to do something similar for the UK.

I can’t list every club in the UK but I can point you towards some useful websites so here goes a few.

nfasNFAS – National Field Archery Society –  http://www.nfas.net/

UK based organisation, which we shoot in most months, there is a good list of clubs and if you want you can find a shoot every weekend.

 

efaaEFAA – English Field Archery Association – http://www.efaafieldarcher.com/ Thought I was a member briefly I have never had the opportunity to shoot under the EFAA banner but know many people who do.

 

archerygbArchery GB – http://www.archerygb.org/ As the sites says Archery GB is the governing body for sports archery in the Great Britain and Ireland.

Another useful site is the Archery Interchange, http://www.archeryinterchange.com/ with its extensive forums offering advice on all things archery related.

Nock, Nock..

Very good advice which is often overlooked even by experienced archers.

As we become better archers and our groups get smaller, broken nocks get to be a fact of life. They are in fact a sign that you’re coming along, busting nocks left and right.

Along with getting better we also need to become more aware. Checking our arrows, nocks and tips as we pull them off the target.

When you break a complete leg off a nock it’s easy to tell you have a problem. Even if you miss it at the bale you won’t be able to nock it onto the string, the damage is too great.

The problem comes when you strike a nock enough to damage it. The nock at first glance looks fine, both legs are there, however it may have a small crack or it may have changed shape and the nock no longer grips the string securely.

Scottish Championships CANCELLED

This is to all NFAS friends that were heading to Scotland over Easter Weekend for the Scottish Championships.

Due to adverse weather conditions the event has been cancelled.

Some of you maybe aware that the UK is presently blanketed in snow and more is falling. The event is run in an abandoned quarry and I quote from the organisers

“The courses are over a steep woodland and rocky route with dips and climbs making for slippery conditions, and bumps and lumps which are now obscured by snow. The AKB course layer and his assistants have indicated that they feel it is unsafe to proceed. “

Can people please pass this message on to all NFAS archers they know so the message can get out there.
