Episode 148 – running to keep still and what newbies get wrong

I’m sure many of you reading this feel at times that you are running just to keep still because there is so much going on. That’s exactly how I’ve been feeling over recent weeks. Barely having time to catch my breath.

This episode is still audio only as my attempt at filming proved less than ideal. The good news is I have learnt lots from the experience for the next time.

Sharon running latest course

I speak at length about some thoughts following on from our recent introduction to archery course we are currently running, Identifying some  problems newcomers to archery can encounter. These problems are often associated with putting too much pressure on themselves in expecting to learn the skills quickly.

Another issue can occur when new archers have had limited instruction or are self-taught from YouTube. Don’t get me wrong , there are some great materials online but watching them doesn’t necessarily mean when you come to apply the knowledge you do so perfectly. This can therefore place you in a situation where you may have to relearn or correct your shooting.

On a different and more upbeat note, it is great to see Coach Angel Garcia is back releasing content again and as promised here is a link to his podcast on spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/6WmNrw5VQLXUWiMKAnh5Ra?si=bd17bc7b7c7244aa) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/HighPowerArcher)

I was lucky enough to book a place on the excellent talk by Matt Zirnsak from The Push organised by Archery GB. The session was recorded and I believe you can buy access but I haven’t found the details at time of writing this, but I do have a link to the original booking, I wrote pages of notes and it’s left me lots to think about and plan.

Speaking of archery icons, Grizzly Jim has become a cover model for the latest copy of the NFAS magazine, though I do think he resembles more of a teddy bear than Grizzly. Maybe that’s because I have known him so long and know how kind he is.

For those wanting to listen to the episode, it’s available on Amazon music and Spotify.

Speaking of Spotify I received a notification that I’ve hit 200 subscribers on Spotify, which for a small podcast like mine is a massive achievement.

Episode 147 – Archers Triangle overview

Episode 147 – Archers Triangle overview

I have an invite for all my followers and readers of this site to join me  on what could be called a learning journey as I introduce you to the concept of the Archers Triangle which is something I first started using when I started archery nearly 20 years ago.

I honestly believe it is as useful and applicable to an existing archer as it is to a newbie, as it allows you to work through your shooting and equipment.

In the next few episodes, I plan to expand on the 3 sides of the triangle but this is very much an overview. Some of you who have followed this site for a few years will know I have covered the archers triangle a few times, specifically concerning how it can help with target panic or shot anxiety

If you are a coach do you have something similar to help explain things to your students?

As always here are the links to amazon music and Spotify.

Most of all remember to enjoy your shooting and as always thanks for listening, watching and supporting.
